Elaine Paige

When thinking of our main show "The encore show", we were inspired quite dramatically by the Elaine Paige show. As you may know, on her show she talks about and plays songs from big films and shows. Although the style of shows she uses, may be different to ours it is quite similar and having a similar target audience as her show, we can gain a lot from listening to her shows.

Elaine Paige. Sunday 31st October 2010, 1.00pm
She opens with two big musical numbers back to back and then introduces herself to the audience. The soundbeds she uses are quite simple and almost sophisticated, i.e not very upbeat and childish. Her mode of address is quite formal and direct to the audience. Her pitch is slightly low, keeping a formal and calm feel to the show. Her pace is quite average so that she is very clear and easily understandable to listeners of all ages, gaining more communication and tying in with the genre of the show. She pauses quite often during her speech, but in a natural way. This gives the audience a chance to catch up and can build tension before things like quizzes and songs.
She Projects her voice brilliantly, her voice is very clear and loud and there seems to be no change in her voice or the continuity of the show.

She reads an e-mail from listeners. involving the audience on a personal level and this shows that she has different multi-media platforms, on which listeners can engage with the show.
Showing that we could still get people to e-mail things in and almost have it as a feature on the show. It makes the show more interesting for our listeners and its a whole new talking point for our presenter.
Having the one female presenter on the show works well as having many presenters on the show would completely change the style and genre and would make the show very busy.

Elaine Paige talks about a number of shows and films and things, whereas we feel we might make ours more specific to current shows in London. However Elaine Paige talks about ballet shows, dance shows, very old theatre and also new films like High School Musical. This would be a possibility for us also.
