Evaluation

Radio Assignment Evaluation

Tea and Toast Radio Show:

Intro: The Tea and Toast Show was the first radio show we conducted. We wanted to create a show that people our age could enjoy and we wanted to relate it to shows that we like, such as Chris Moyles' radio 1 show or Ferne Cottons Radio show.

Strengths: We played a good selection of music that a wide range of people could enjoy and would want to hear. Our topics were very audience related.

Weaknesses: I think with the feature we could have made more calls so that we could have got a few more funny ones.

Talk about the research you did: Once we had decided what sort of program we wanted to do we researched into similar programs that we could think of, such as Chris Moyles' Show and Ferne Cotton's Show. When conducting the research the things we picked up on that were important to our target audience where, keeping the show informal, chatty and humorous and sticking to current music and topics that fit our target age group.

How does it compare to the shows your researched: Our show compared quite a bit to the shows we researched in the sense that our playlist was music that is in the charts at the moment, as radio one and the above shows also do. Also our feature was quite similar to one of the features on Chris Moyles a while ago. Also we kept the general presenting style quite similar as we had one main presenter/speaker, Sam and we also had two almost quest presenters, myself and Amy. This meant that we could have the general banter and chat and the humorous, not to formal style that the above shows have. Also when talking in links we kept anything we talked about to topics that our audience would like such as shows on tv and muic etc.

Talk about the features used and how they relate to the target audience: For this show I made a feature called, “The Prank Call Feature”. This feature involved calling up people or businesses and trying to get 5 random words into the conversation. To do this feature we had to sit in Sam's car and use his hands free device and a zoom recorder. I think this feature suited our show and target audience quite well as our target age group like making things such as prank calls and I think the humour involved is well received by most people of that age. I tihnk the prank call feature was quite amusing however if I did it again I think we would call more people so that we had a wide variety of calls to choose from and could therefore pick the ones that worked most and were the funniest.

Do you feel the Programme suited the intended audience: I feel our show fitted our target audience quite well as we followed the research we had collected quite thoroughly. When listening to our show we had some funny moments and a good selection of music and we also had some good feedback from some people that fitted our audience profile.

The Encore Show:

Intro: Our second show, we decided to call “The Encore Show”. This show was specifially for children in need so we wanted to do something a bit different. In our group a lot of us have a passion for musicals and Disney, so we decided to do a show specifically about musicals.

Strengths: I feel this show fitted its target audience superbly and the show seemed quite professional and formal. I think our presenter was a very good choice as she can be very clear and formal and had quite a good knowledge of the musicals and I feel our features were very interesting and informative.

Weaknesses: At one point we weren't sure if we had gone off air for a moment but saying we were live for one hour I feel there were not many mistakes and It ran quite well. I think If were were to do this again we could have a few more interesting features that could involve our listeners a bit more as I feel our tea and toast show gave the audience more chances to interact with the show.

Talk about the research you did: When deciding on the type of show we wanted to do we saw that Elaine Paige's radio show was very similar and therefore when putting together our show we researched into Elaine Paige and her style and techniques. We also researched into all of the big shows currently out in the west end and big shows that have previously been in London and other places. We had to research quite a lot into specific shows. We found out plots, where they are being showed and even how long they have been running and if they have big events up. Our show playlist had to be well researched into as well. Obviously all of our songs were from musicals and so we had to pick the songs from musicals that we thought our audience would want to hear most. Once we had selected them we also had to check that they were suitable and had no swearing in them.

How does it compare to the shows your researched: I believe our show is quite similar to the Elaine paige show as in our show we included, music from the shows, musical reviews and general musical chat very similar to the Elaine Paige Show. It also had the same style as the show as we had one singular female presenter who was quite clear and formal all the way through.

Talk about the features used and how they relate to the target audience: For our features in the show we had quite a few musical reviews, these were very relevant to our target audience as if they are listening to the show they will be people that like musicals and these features give a lot more information about new musicals and fit the style of our show as they were quite formal. We also had a feature that was “Life in the day of a musical theatre student”, we felt our target audience would enjoy this as its quite interesting and informative and it gives a bit of background information to how musical theatre stars are made.

Do you feel the Programme suited the intended audience: I think overall the show suited the target audience well as the whole show had a good structure and style, like the Elaine Paige show and I think our target audience would be able to enjoy the chat, music and features very easily.
